Since the squelch response is slow, I pick up directly detected signal for demodulation and use squelch only for disabling TNC from sending. This eliminates the delay caused by squelch. -- Ryuji Suzuki JF7WEX ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 07 Oct 94 16:15:39 +0900 From: Ryuji Suzuki -- JF7WEX Subject: squelch (antenna switching time) Icom IC-120 is working here with V.29 9600bps modem, for radio TCP/IP. When Tuscon Amateur Packet Radio were using the "tcet.unt.edu" return address, I subscribed to their lists. Now, they use "tapr.org". I am still getting their interesting bulletins but cannot respond to them. My e-mail, addressed to the "tapr.org", bounces back. TAPR.ORG is declared as "unknown host" by several servers. I sent this question to sombody at tcet.unt.edu but have received no response. So what I need is a numerical IP address of tapr.org. ========================================================================== AmprNet: ve3mrm%ve3mrm.ampr.org@bbs.ve3rpi.ampr.org Andrew Kukla IP address: 44.135.88.38 o Toronto, Ontario AX.25 mail: VE3MRM @ VA3BBS.#SCON.ON.CAN.NOAM (Û) 73 ===================================================== Ð ================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 06 Oct 1994 14:46:56 -0400 From: "Louis A. There is no IP address associated with TAPR.ORG, just an MX record that points to: tapr.org. 23212 MX 10 dptspd.sat.datapoint.com. If you email addressed to tapr.org bounces, then your SMTP mailer is just plain broken. louie WA3YMH ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Oct 1994 13:46:34 -0500 From: Willis Marti Subject: tapr.org as "unknown host"? Crompton) Subject: tapr.org as "unknown host"? TAPR.ORG is an MX record. If you are using NOS on AMPRNET you must set 'smtp usemx on' This assumes you are using an internet (or internet served) domain server. In general you should set have this set to on BUT it will take longer since each resolve must be done at least twice. Once to see if an MX record exists and again to find an 'A' record. Since this is only done for mail, and that is not realtime, who really cares. If you are using wa3dsp or a JNOS version that has 'domain resolve' (I think K2MF does also) you can check these things BEFORE you try to send mail. domain resolve ucsd.edu where.I.want.to.go [mx] This would check the ucsd, edu domain server for the type of record requested. If non is added, like mx, then it looks for 'A' records If you check for 'A' reocrds and get a host unknown then check for an MX. Also use the closest server to you in place of ucsd.edu if you can.
